Advancing California’s Clean Energy Future

Helping a battery storage client lead the charge with a strategic marcomms roadmap.

The Opportunity

To support California’s transition to clean energy, battery storage innovator EnerSmart Storage sought (W)right On Communications’ expertise to put the company on the map as it expanded operations across the state. The company—which specializes in developing, owning and operating on-demand, utility-scale renewable energy storage projects that stabilize the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) grid—leverages big data and predictive analytics to develop intelligent energy storage systems that enhance grid reliability.

Combined, EnerSmart’s projects play a critical role in balancing the intermittent energy supply from wind and solar with the real-time energy demands of local communities.

The Solution

Given the agency’s experience in clean energy public relations, EnerSmart partnered with (W)right On Communications to develop a community engagement and public relations program. The agency outreached to educate elected officials, clean energy stakeholders and the public about the benefits of EnerSmart’s battery energy storage systems (BESS). From fostering relationships with communities pegged for future energy storage projects to  implementing a replicable community outreach strategy to support future project rollouts, (W)right On’s program included:

  • Messaging
  • Website content
  • Outreach materials
  • Community engagement
  • Media relations
  • Event support
  • Video production

Our team celebrated the inaugural project, a six-megawatt battery storage system capable of powering 3,000 homes per hour, with a high-profile ribbon-cutting event featuring U.S. Representative Scott Peters and a partnership with NADBank which provided project financing.

The Results

The initiative successfully positioned EnerSmart Storage as a leader in battery energy storage, securing strong media coverage and community leader awareness of the company’s first project to be commissioned. Among the media results:
